What are pigment spots?

Pigment spots and spots on the skin are basically the same thing. Pigment spots are skin discolorations caused by too much of the pigment melanin, which is responsible for skin color. These discolorations can appear in various forms, such as freckles, melasma or brown spots. "Spots on the skin" is a general term for discoloration or irregularityproblems on the skin, such as pigment spots.

 There are different forms of pigmentation disorder. various forms of pigment spots, including:

  1. Freckles: Freckles are small, flat, brown spots caused by increased melanin production in skin cells. They usually occur in people with fair skin and are more severe in people who are more frequently exposed to the sun.

  2. Melasma: Melasma is a type of pigmentation caused by hormonal changes. It often occurs in women during pregnancy or when taking hormonal contraceptives. Melasma appears as dark, irregularly shaped patches on the face.

  3. Age spots: Age spots, also known as liver spots or lentigines, are flat, brown spots that appear with age. They arise from long exposure to the sun and in most cases occur on the hands, face and other sun-exposed areas of the body.

  4. Postinflammatory hyperpigmasntion: This type of pigmentation occurs after inflammation or injury to the skin. They can appear as dark spots or discolorations and are often caused by skin problems such as acne or eczema.

The spots are mostly harmless, but many people want to get rid of them for cosmetic reasons. There are different options for this to treat, e.g. CreamsPeels or laser therapy. However, it is advisable to consult a dermatologist to determine the best treatment option for your specific situation.
